It is so hard to believe that summer is almost over and that fall will be here soon. We had such a fun summer! Especially our family reunion in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. Over sixty five of us spent a week together in ‘Paradise’. Our home base was the Island Lake Christian Retreat Center, just outside of Fernie, British Columbia, a place I would highly recommend!
The best part was: my husband and I got to take our three granddaughters on a road trip with our new trailer through the National Parks of Canada the week prior to the reunion.
There was one family that was not able to attend the reunion as her new baby was due right during the event. She had asked me if I would make a unicorn blanket for her, and of course we did not have a design for that yet so I created one.
I made the blanket from one of my first patterns: Six So Simple Baby blankets. The pattern shows you six different ways to make a baby blanket. It also includes an alphabet so you can applique any sentiment you want onto your blanket to personalize it further.
This version is called the textured edge blanket. It is really easy to construct. You just need two pieces of coordinating fabrics and 120 inches of a three inch wide ‘decorative, fun’ fabric for the trim. You round the corners, pin on the trim and sew around the outside edge of the blanket twice. Just be sure to leave a small hole to turn it inside out. Sew that hole shut and you have a blanket. And of course you can add a fun applique prior to putting it together if you’d like. We have lots of animals to choose from in our template library: found here.
I have enough fabric and trim to create about three more of these blankets as kits. If you would like one, just pick a trim color and click the buy now button above! (This is on a first come, first serve basis. We will update the post when the kits are gone.)
If you just want the textured edge throw blanket pattern we do have that one separately. It is a very reasonable $3.00. However, because we appreciate you stopping by our blog we are giving you a $3.00 discount on any downloadable pattern for a week (until 9/2/2017). Just use the discount code 3DOLLARSOFF at checkout.
We introduced nine new patterns in the spring and you may not have seen them yet. If you click here you can download a current catalog of our patterns.
I am hoping to teach more classes this year. I especially love teaching for Quilting Guilds. Click here to download a copy of my classes and contract brochure.
And last, because I am trying to BE the GOOD in the WORLD, I plan to take three of our blankets to the local hospital to be donated to moms with new babies.
Happy sewing! Remember to get creative.
Sheila
