The best way is to place the pattern pieces on the floor and then place your foot on top of each of the sizes – choose the one where your toe and your heel fit within the stitching line on the pattern piece. If you find that your foot is too small for one of the pattern pieces but too big for the other one – consider making the bigger one just a bit smaller.

If you are making slippers for someone that is not near you – ask them to measure the distance from the end of their toe to the end of their heel.
